With Easter coming up we are always looking for new Easter Egg Ideas, I know I am. I am tired of using the cheap looking plastic eggs and knowing that they do not benefit our environment when we dispose of them. I wanted to share with you a few Easter Egg Ideas. They are not only different but they are Eco Friendly too.
I came across these really great eggs called Eco Eggs. They are made out of corn starch and they look like the plastic ones and can be used year after year, the great thing is, they are obviously not made out of Petroleum Based Polymers like the plastic ones, the added bonus they are made right here in the USA. The biggest advantage is that when they get thrown away they will biodegrade and compost, that is awesome!
Paper Mache Easter Eggs
When my husband was deployed we could not share Easter with him. So I decided to make him this great big Easter Eggby using the paper mache technique. It is cheap, great fun with the kids and sort of an experiment for them too. I also added some cinnamon to the flower and water mixture to make it smell nice.
We blew up a balloon to the size we liked, made the mixture and tore the newspaper into strips. We proceeded to layer the newspaper over the balloon until it was 2 layers thick. Very messy but fun, I suggest doing this outside on the lawn.
Once the egg was dry I cut the hard shell of the paper mache in half and removed the balloon. We stuffed it with candy, a fluffy bunny and some home made cookies. I then sealed the two halves with some wet strips of the newspaper. Waited for that to dry. Alex went to town painting it. I then shipped it to Afghanistan in a box with some shredded newspaper to protect the Easter Egg. It arrived in one piece and Todd loved it. A little love from home.
I hope this gave you some inspiration for your Easter Egg Ideas.
Please don’t forget to post some of your Easter Egg pictures.
The Sock Monkey is so simple, yet a great toy for the children to have as a travel buddy or night time friend. I thought I would share with you a bit more about the origins of the Sock Monkey and how it came about.
The Sock Monkeys predecessors originated in the Victorian Era, the craze of imitation stuffed animals swept through Europe into North America. “Craft makers began sewing stuffed animals as toys to comfort children, and, as tales of the Scramble for Africa increased the public’s familiarity with exotic species, monkey toys soon became a fixture of American nurseries. However, these early stuffed monkeys were not necessarily made from socks, and also lacked the characteristic red lips of the sock monkeys popular today.” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sock_monkey)
In 1932 the red-heeled sock emerged, trademarked by the Nelson Knitting Company. The red-heeled socks also know as “Rockfords” as in Rockford, Illinois, became so popular that many other companies imitated them, the Nelson Knitting Company introduced the red-heel “de-tec-tip” to ensure their customers that they were getting the real deal and not an imitation. This red-heel is what gave the Sock Monkeys their distinctive red lips.
During the Great Depression, American crafters would use these socks to make Sock Monkeys. In 1951 the Nelson Knitting Company was aware of these Sock Monkey dolls, receiving a patent in 1955. They subsequently included the Sock Monkey pattern with ever pair of socks they sold.
The original Sock Monkeys are dated as far back as the 1950s. Sock Monkeys today are not necessarily created with red-heel socks, with the great variety of stripes and dots out there, you can get a Sock Monkeys in every color of the rainbow.
With the love of the Sock Monkey, new creations have been born, from the Socktopus to the Sockodile and many more. I hope you enjoyed this little piece of history regarding the Sock Monkey. Even though we do not have the Sock Monkey we have his family and friends. Take a look at our great selection of sweater and sock toys today!
Baby Registry – The Green, Organic and All Natural Way
Spring has finally arrived and we know that this is the time of the year that mother nature brings new life into this world. At Organic Eco Baby you can create your very own Baby Registry. Start your precious new babies life off with only the best Organic Baby Products out there.
We have the best Chemical Free products, for you to start this journey, with your precious New Baby. Organic and All Natural Products are the way forward. Your babies skin is delicate and very sensitive to chemicals and perfumes. In the first few months your little boy or girl will spend a great amount of time sleeping and near you. Your baby will be in some form of cotton fabric most of the day. So to prevent extensive exposure to unseen harmful chemicals that are found in our everyday cotton, Organic and All Natural baby products is the right choice for you.
Many Newborn Babies end up with skin irritation, allergies and so forth, a lot of these come from the clothing we wear, the food we eat and the chemicals we use around the house. This is also why we have so many more unexplained early childhood illnesses. In the long run you may pay that little bit extra, but the advantages are:-
- Better health for your baby
- Better health for you
- Better for the environment
- Better for your pets
- Can help prevent cot death
- Better quality. In the long run you pay less because you don’t have to purchase the same items more than once.
- Save money. On average you are spending +- $2900 on disposables. Cloth diapers can cost anywhere from $400 – $1300. It isn’t a huge savings, but some savings is better than none, plus you are helping the environment, and limiting your child’s exposure to unnecessary chemicals.
We have a great selection of Organic Baby Clothes, AZO Free and Pthalate Free Diaper Bags and Changing Kits, Baby First Food Glass Containers, Glass Baby Bottles, Stainless Steel Klean Kanteen’s, Naturepedic Mattresses, Nursing Pr
oducts and more. We are even adding products for the older children and the family, so please do check back to see what is new.
At Organic Eco Baby, you and your baby are our NUMBER ONE priority. If there is anything you need to know about a specific product or about Organic and All Natural baby products, I personally am here to help you. Simply CONTACT US.
All the best with your little angel!
I thought I would write a bit more and share why I am so passionate, not only about organic baby products but all natural products too. Having been in the research industry, it was really an eye opener as to what ch
emicals can really do to us and our unborn children. If you think of your skin as a sponge, that is exactly what it is.
Organic cotton firstly is cotton that has been produced without using harmful chemicals. If only you knew what those chemicals show in testing then you would think twice about how you view using Organic Baby Products on your children. If you think about it, the clothing we wear has very harmful chemicals in them, from the toxins in the dyes that are used, added to that the cotton has been chemically treated while growing and then in the production process. So chemical upon chemical right? So if your child is wearing cotton and all these cheap clothes that are on the market, you know what is on their precious little skins right? CHEMICALS, very harmful ones at that. This can only explain why so many children have some sort of skin irritation and or rash. Not to mention that these chemicals can lead to cancers.
Your baby is wearing cotton clothing from morning to night, so the skin exposure is rather large as the clothing covers the babies body basically from head to toe. The skin absorbs everything that is placed on it.
We must really give this some food for thought. Even though you may think Organic Baby Products and Eco Baby Products are expensive, they last longer, feel better and you know that your baby is safe and healthy, this is worth more that having a thousand different outfits rather than a few GOOD Organic Baby Items.
Don’t you think?
I thought that this link was cool. I always sit and look at myself and think I look terrible after having two children. This was nice to see that a lot of us look the same. I feel better now. YAY. All smiles.
When, where and how should we introduce the Potty? We have made it through this first year and how fast it has flown by, right? Now we have reached the Toddler years. This is a start to a whole new era for us and this wonderful little person we are watching grow. Some Toddler’s are ready for Potty Training just over the age of one, and some are only ready from two or three years of age. My son was toilet trained by the time he was 18 months old. My little girl Amy is 18 months old now, I am yet to see the signs for being ready yet. When approaching this new phase of our lives we need to consider a few things and look out for a few signs. It is a good thing to invest in a potty so your Toddler can get used to it hanging around the house, even if they are not ready for potty training just yet, this will let them feel comfortable when the time comes.
Potty Training Signs. (These are a few)
- Being able to pull pants up and down by themselves
- Wanting to copy you going to the bathroom
- Wanting to wear underwear
- Recognizes words for urine and stool (less formal poo poo and wee wee)
- Being able to follow simple instructions such as “please pass me the toy”
- Dislikes being in a dirty diaper
There are several types of Potty Training devices on the market these days, it is best to purchase what will suite your every day needs.
What Potty should I buy?
- The basic Potty like the BecoPotty is the most common way to start Potty Training. I have just purchased one for Amy. It is heavier than the cheaper brands out there on the market, it is great quality and offers good support for Amy when she is sitting on it. The other great feature about this Potty is that it is Biodegradable and is made from Natural Plant Fibers. Once the Potty Training phase is over and done with, you can store it away for the next one, or you can take it and plant it in the garden, it will Biodegrade over time.
Pros
- It takes up little space, moves around the house from room to room and can even be taken on holiday with you.
- Environmentally friendly, something you cannot say for the other Potties on the market, safe for your Toddler too.
- The BecoPotty won’t tipple over like most others on the market due to its sturdy design and weight.
Cons
- No Potty is enjoyable to clean
The other options on the market are the larger types and the seat inserts. These all work well but the only down side is that you cannot move them from room to room with you during those early days of training, and be rather cumbersome.
I love my BecoPotty that I purchased for Amy. Now that the New Year is here Potty Training shall commence when we get back to the USA. This can be a difficult time but once it is done it is done. I firmly believe that when you start this process you must not go back. When you mean to start you need to follow through. If you regress because you are having a bad day or something, remember you are confusing your toddler and it will make the whole potty training process even harder in the end. I would set aside one week for this and stick to a routine and you will be done in no time. Look for the signs, get to know your Toddler. The BecoStep is very handy for the next step when your Toddler is comfortable with using the toilet. This too can be planted in the garden when you are done with it.
How did you Potty Train your children? Please let me know what you did to help out others. Thanks and Good Luck.

So here I am again giving you some great ideas for that very unusual Christmas Gift from you and the kids. This time, I am going to tell you about the great uses of Sodium Alginate. It is a product that is used in practically everything, even in the dentists room. I actually won the young Scientists of the year award for researching this product and making a real life size cast of my dads face. If only I new that many years later, people would be selling kits to do exactly what I did, I would have had a break through success.
Alginate is derived from Brown Algae and has many great medicinal properties. But today you will learn how to use it for casting. You can purchase these ready made kits from a company called Accu-Cast, they have kits ready to go with all the instructions, this is the best option if you are new to this.
How exciting it would be for the Grandparents to get a gorgeous casting of babies hand, or all the kids hands together. You can cast so many things the list is endless, and why pay someone a fortune to do it for you? You can then also customize it yourself with Safe Eco-Friendly Gold Paint or Bronze Paint. There are also these great Mix-Ins that you can add to the plaster before you poor it into the mold.
We do also have some other great alternatives that you can simply purchase in store, take a look at our Eco-Friendly Toys and Games if you are running out of time. We have great Eco-Friendly Place Mats and Eating Sets too. All safe and Natural.

So! When I started this voyage to start this business, I mentioned that I would tell you about me and my life in South Africa. You may find it interesting you may find it boring, but either way, you might like to know a little bit about the person behind OrganicEcoBaby.com.
1976: Born in South Africa in a hospital in a town called Springs. Springs can be found in the Province of Johannesburg
also known as, “Gauteng” the SeSotho name for “The Place of Gold”. Gold was discovered in Johannesburg in 1886 along with Diamonds in 1905. However, Gauteng’s history dates back some 4 million years.
1982: We moved towards the coast to a town called Amanzimtoti. “It is situated
to the south of the centre of Durban in KwaZulu Natal. The name ‘Amanzimtoti’ means ‘sweetwaters’ and is generally attributed to the famed King Shaka of the Zulus. During one of Shaka’s campaigns, he and his army stopped to rest here. He was brought a calabash filled with water from the local river and once he sipped the water, he said “Kanti Amanz’amtoti’ meaning ‘ the water is sweet’.”
1982 onwards. To Be Continued…..
